How the list is built and updated

Method: we read the public follower count on each account's Instagram profile (top 500 every day, the rest every five days) and store it with the date. No estimates or adjustments. Data CC BY 4.0 · Cite this list

Collecting data since 25 Sep 2026. 30-day changes from 25 Oct 2026.

Which accounts: we start with every account Wikidata links to an Instagram username, plus a short list we keep by hand. Every Monday we check Wikidata again for new accounts and changed usernames. The 2,000 biggest make the list. The 10 biggest from each country stay on it too, as long as they have 250,000 followers or more.

Left out: private accounts, places like cities and landmarks, and accounts that asked us to take them off. We also drop usernames that turned out to be someone else's, and accounts that didn't load 3 times in a row.

Followers are the public count on the profile. The top 500 accounts are read every day and the rest every five days; changes over 7 and 30 days for those are scaled from the nearest reading and marked ≈. Last update: 19 October 2026, 12:29 UTC.

Engagement rate, refreshed every three days for the top 200: average (likes + comments) on the latest ~12 posts ÷ followers

Engaged audience (est.), where today's median is 0.79%: followers × (account engagement rate ÷ median engagement rate of the top 100), capped at followers

Milestone projections fit a straight line to the last 30 days and appear once an account has 14 days of history.

What we can't see: we only read public numbers. Pinned posts are skipped. Views, saves and shares aren't counted, and one viral post can move the rate a lot. Data since 25 September 2026. Not affiliated with Instagram.
